  • Improved Irrigation Is Changing Crop Choices and Farm Incomes in a Himachal Village, Adani Foundation

At ACC Gagal, cemented RCC water channels have strengthened traditional irrigation systems, helping a Ropa village farmer expand vegetable cultivation and raise annual income.

Himachal Pradesh, February 4, 2026: Improved access to irrigation is reshaping vegetable farming practices in Ropa village under the Dhounkothi Watershed Project, where Adani Foundation, working through ACC Gagal, has strengthened traditional water systems to support local agriculture.
The initiative focused on augmenting existing ‘kuhls’, or traditional irrigation channels, by constructing 335 metres of cemented RCC water channels. The intervention has improved water flow consistency, reduced leakage, and lowered the time and labour required for daily irrigation.

For local farmer Sandeep Kumar, the improvement has directly translated into more reliable cultivation. Earlier, limited water flow and frequent maintenance disrupted irrigation schedules and restricted crop planning. With the upgraded channel in place, he now cultivates a wider range of vegetables including lady finger, brinjal, turmeric, and garlic.
The shift to diversified vegetable farming has increased the family’s annual agricultural income from Rs. 31,600 to Rs. 40,100. The improved irrigation system has also reduced manual effort, allowing household members to devote more time to other livelihood activities such as livestock management.

Beyond individual benefits, the strengthened irrigation infrastructure has supported better overall farm productivity and contributed to improved biodiversity within cultivated areas. Consistent water availability has enabled healthier crop cycles and more efficient use of land resources.
Through infrastructure led rural development, ACC and the Adani Foundation continue to work with local communities, panchayats, and grassroots organisations to address practical challenges faced by farmers. Such initiatives aim to build long term resilience by improving access to essential resources, strengthening livelihoods, and supporting sustainable agricultural practices in rural Himachal Pradesh.

  • Punjab and Haryana begin regional dialogue on low carbon packaging from crop residue

Governments, industry, farmers, and sustainability groups discuss circular supply chains for agri fibre pulp and paper in a first of its kind convening

Chandigarh, 4 February 2026: Punjab and Haryana convened their first regional dialogue to explore the development of circular, low carbon packaging supply chains using agricultural residue, bringing together government officials, industry representatives, farmer organisations, brands, and sustainability experts to assess the potential of agri fibre based pulp and paper solutions.
The roundtable, titled Building Circular, Low Carbon Supply Chains for Agri Fibre Pulp and Paper Packaging in Punjab and Haryana, was held at Hyatt Regency Chandigarh and was co presented by Asar and Canopy. The dialogue aimed to build a shared understanding of how crop residues such as paddy straw and wheat straw can be transformed into low impact packaging materials while addressing environmental and economic challenges.

Punjab and Haryana together generate over 35 million tonnes of crop residue annually. While a significant portion of this biomass is currently underutilised or burned, participants discussed how it could be repurposed as an industrial input to support clean air, reduce carbon emissions, and create additional income streams for farmers. The discussion positioned farmers as active partners in circular supply chains that extend beyond food production to sustainable materials.
Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare in the Punjab Government, said the state is consistently working toward sustainable crop residue management. He said such platforms help policymakers, industry, and farmers understand how residue can be used more effectively in value added industries while addressing environmental concerns and supporting farmer incomes. He added that India already has the technical capacity to produce pulp and paper from agricultural residue, and rising demand for sustainable packaging from e commerce, FMCG, and retail sectors creates an opportunity for regional economic growth and rural employment aligned with environmental priorities.

India currently produces around 1.5 million tonnes of pulp and paper from agri residue across 23 mills, demonstrating technical feasibility at scale. With growing interest in sustainable packaging, agri fibre based paper and corrugated solutions were discussed as a viable pathway for reducing dependence on forest based raw materials.
Shyam Singh Rana, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare in the Haryana Government, said Haryana’s industrial base provides a strong foundation for circular manufacturing. He said the dialogue helped stakeholders understand how crop residue could be integrated into low carbon packaging supply chains in ways that benefit both industry and the environment. He highlighted that Haryana has strong crop residue management policies, abundant feedstock, and established pulp and paper clusters in Yamuna Nagar and Panipat, along with emerging biofuel and industrial infrastructure.

Participants noted that Punjab’s feedstock availability and ex situ crop residue management policies complement Haryana’s industrial and processing strengths. Together, the two states were seen as well positioned to explore a regional circular bioeconomy model that connects farmers with processing industries and end markets, while addressing shared challenges such as stubble burning.
Vinuta Gopal, Chief Executive Officer of Asar, said crop residue should be viewed as a valuable resource rather than waste. She said the dialogue focused on understanding how Punjab and Haryana could unlock this potential in ways that benefit farmers, reduce pressure on forests, and support India’s transition to low carbon materials.

The discussion also identified key challenges requiring further assessment, including underutilised residue collection systems, limited participation of small and marginal farmers, weak linkages between collection and industrial use, and insufficient policy focus on packaging as a high value application of crop residue.
Shruti Singh, Country Director of Canopy, said forest based supply chains for paper, packaging, and textiles are facing increasing climate risks. She said crop residue offers a practical low carbon alternative for India and that bringing governments, mills, farmers, innovators, and brands together was a step toward understanding what is needed to scale agri residue based circular supply chains in the region.
Participants agreed on the need for continued engagement and discussed the possibility of forming a Punjab Haryana working group to assess infrastructure, policy, and investment requirements. The convening marked an initial step toward positioning crop residue as a resource for low carbon packaging and farmers as central partners in circular supply chains.

  • A New Pan India Programme Seeks to Widen Access to Talent Development for Children Through Nexura Events

Mohit Gandhi and Nisha Chauhan of Nexura Events and Pilllars Of SStrengtth Foundation outline the intent behind the ‘Udaan: Nayi Peedhi, Naya Kal’ initiative

Nexura Events, in collaboration with Pilllars Of SStrengtth Foundation, has announced the launch of Udaan: Nayi Peedhi, Naya Kal, a pan India initiative designed to support children with talent and potential who have limited access to structured opportunities for growth.
Launched as a long term child development and social advancement programme, Udaan operates under the Children Talent and Social Advancement initiative. Within this framework, Pilllars Of SStrengtth Foundation anchors the social and developmental approach, while Nexura Events leads programme execution and experiential design. The initiative focuses on building confidence, communication, discipline, and self expression through guided learning rather than performance driven competition.

The programme encourages children to present any form of talent or interest they currently possess or wish to explore. Participants are not restricted to predefined categories and are supported in expressing individuality and creativity through age appropriate engagement. The structure has been designed to ensure that children are guided, mentored, and supported at every stage of their learning journey.
According to the organisers, Udaan prioritises emotional well being, self belief, and personal growth over rankings, elimination formats, or competitive pressure. The initiative follows a progressive model that emphasises mentoring, exposure, and confidence building, allowing children to grow at their own pace in a safe and encouraging environment.

Commenting on the launch, Mohit Gandhi, Director and Founder of Nexura Events and Pilllars Of SStrengtth Foundation, said that the idea behind Udaan is rooted in the belief that every child carries potential but not every child receives the exposure or guidance needed to recognise it. He said the initiative aims to stand alongside children as they discover their abilities, express themselves, and grow into individuals who believe in their own potential.
Nisha Chauhan, Director and Founder of Nexura Events and Vice President of Pilllars Of SStrengtth Foundation, said the programme has been designed to create a space where children feel encouraged rather than judged or pressured. She added that Udaan seeks to assure families that children are being nurtured with care, responsibility, and values, and that confidence built at an early stage can have a lasting impact on a child’s future.

Participation in the Udaan programme is completely free of cost. There are no registration fees, participation charges, grooming fees, or hidden costs at any stage. The initiative has been structured to ensure that financial limitations do not act as barriers, allowing children to participate based purely on interest and willingness to learn.
Through its pan India rollout, Udaan aims to reach children across diverse regions and backgrounds, offering structured exposure while maintaining a focus on ethics, inclusion, and long term personal development.

  • Distance to school remains a deciding factor for rural girls as a national programme distributes 35,000 bicycles

Amit Deshpande, Chief Operating Officer, Centre for Transforming India, said the Savitrichya Leki Chalalya Pudhe effort focuses on safety, dignity, and continuity of education for girls travelling long routes to school

For thousands of girls in rural and tribal India, the challenge of education begins long before the classroom. Reaching school itself often involves walking several kilometres each day across isolated terrain, forests, flood-prone paths, or poorly connected villages, a reality that disproportionately affects adolescent girls due to safety concerns and physical fatigue.
Against this backdrop, the Savitrichya Leki Chalalya Pudhe programme led by Centre for Transforming India has focused on improving daily access to school by supporting underprivileged girl students with bicycles. The initiative has distributed more than 35,000 bicycles across India, targeting girls who travel long distances to attend school, particularly in rural, tribal, and hilly regions where public transport is limited or unavailable.

According to education data, an estimated 10 to 15 percent of school-going children in India walk more than three kilometres to reach school. UDISE Plus 2022 to 23 figures show that over 40 percent of rural students travel more than one kilometre daily, while 15 to 20 percent in remote tribal areas walk beyond three kilometres. These conditions have contributed to higher dropout rates among girls, with Maharashtra recording an increase in girls’ dropout from 2.4 percent to 2.9 percent, driven by safety concerns, fatigue, and seasonal migration.
The bicycle distribution is supported by self-defence training and local follow-ups aimed at improving safety and sustaining attendance. The programme is structured to address practical barriers that often remain unaccounted for in enrolment-focused education interventions.

Speaking on the issue, Amit Deshpande, Chief Operating Officer, Centre for Transforming India, said, “Girls’ education cannot be strengthened by enrollment alone; it requires us to remove the everyday barriers that quietly push girls out of the system. Through this initiative, we are addressing the challenge at its root, ensuring that distance, safety, and access no longer determine a girl’s future. When girls can reach school with dignity and confidence, education stops being fragile and starts becoming irreversible.”

As India marks National Girl Child Day, the programme underscores the need to view education outcomes through a wider lens, where infrastructure, safety, and dignity are recognised as essential conditions for sustained learning. Ensuring that girls can travel to school without fear remains a critical factor in reducing dropouts and enabling uninterrupted education in rural India.

  • India’s fire safety outreach crosses 500 million people through global alliance at World Safety Summit 2026

Srinivas Valluri, Ajit Raghavan, and Dipen Mehta represented India at the summit in Dubai

India’s contribution to global fire and life safety awareness has crossed a major milestone, with outreach efforts now reaching more than 500 million people across 64 countries through an international alliance showcased at the World Safety Summit 2026 in Dubai.
The milestone was highlighted during the summit, where the Fire and Security Association of India represented India as part of its strategic alliance with the Directorate General of Dubai Civil Defence. The World Safety Summit 2026 was held at Expo City Dubai and was organised by the General Command of Dubai Civil Defence. The event was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

FSAI’s participation followed a three year Memorandum of Understanding signed in January last year between Dubai Civil Defence and the association. The agreement provides a structured framework for cooperation across fire safety, firefighting, and civil defence, including knowledge exchange, joint research, training programmes, awareness forums, and sharing of best practices, while respecting national laws and institutional independence.
India was represented at the summit by Srinivas Valluri, National President of FSAI, who led the Indian delegation, along with Ajit Raghavan, Presidential Member and International Affairs Chairman, FSAI, and Dipen Mehta, National Secretary, FSAI. The delegation participated in the World Safety Forum, a closed door platform comprising representatives from 34 countries, where heads of delegations presented brief national reports.

During the roundtable session, the Indian delegation outlined the impact of the FSAI Dubai Civil Defence alliance and highlighted India’s contribution to advancing large scale, community focused fire and life safety awareness across diverse regions.
Speaking at the summit, Srinivas Valluri said, “Representing India at the World Safety Summit reflects FSAI’s commitment to global collaboration in safety. Contributing to an outreach of over 500 million people in under a year demonstrates the strength of partnerships, structured engagement and shared responsibility in protecting lives.”

As part of the official agenda, FSAI leadership participated in multiple high level engagements, including closed meetings with international dignitaries and parallel sessions. Ajit Raghavan represented the association in discussions with the Dubai Youth Council, where the focus was placed on youth engagement and future ready capacity building within safety ecosystems.
Reflecting on the discussions, Ajit Raghavan said, “The summit underlined that sustainable safety outcomes depend on education, innovation and youth participation, areas where FSAI continues to play an active role.”

A key outcome of the summit was the announcement by Dubai Civil Defence of a global task force aimed at implementing Artificial Intelligence in fire and life safety systems. The initiative is intended to strengthen prevention, preparedness, and emergency response capabilities across jurisdictions.
In recognition of FSAI’s contribution to the alliance, Dipen Mehta was elected as an Executive Member of the global AI Task Force. He is one of only eight members selected worldwide and will represent India on the international platform.
Commenting on the development, Dipen Mehta said, “Being selected as one of only eight global delegates for this task force is both an honour and a responsibility. It reflects the confidence placed in FSAI and India’s growing participation in global safety frameworks. Our focus will be on developing practical, scalable AI driven solutions that can be adapted across diverse environments.”
With its participation at the World Safety Summit 2026 and an expanding role in international safety initiatives, FSAI continues to strengthen India’s presence in the global fire and life safety ecosystem, while advancing collaboration, awareness, and innovation aimed at building safer communities worldwide.

  • Child talent and social advancement programme Udaan rolls out nationwide

Mohit Gandhi and Nisha Chauhan said the initiative will be executed by Nexura Events with Pilllars Of SStrengtth Foundation

A new pan-India child development initiative titled Udaan: Nayi Peedhi, Naya Kal has been launched with the aim of supporting children with talent and interest who have limited access to structured opportunities. The programme is being executed by Nexura Events in collaboration with Pilllars Of SStrengtth Foundation and is positioned as a long-term effort focused on confidence-building, guided learning, and ethical exposure.
The initiative operates under the Children Talent and Social Advancement (CTSA) framework, with Pilllars Of SStrengtth Foundation anchoring the social and developmental aspects of the programme, while Nexura Events oversees execution and experiential design. According to the organisers, Udaan has been structured to prioritise personal growth, communication, discipline, and self-expression, rather than competitive performance or elimination-based formats.

Udaan allows children to participate by presenting any talent or area of interest they wish to explore or develop.
