Aditya Birla’s Ujaas and Evonik India join hands to deliver menstrual health sessions across Mumbai schools
The initiative will engage over 1,000 students and 40 women from underserved communities, aiming to break taboos, promote hygiene, and drive inclusive awareness through structured MHM sessions
Ujaas, a menstrual health initiative under the Aditya Birla Education Trust, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Evonik India to launch structured awareness programs across select schools in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The sessions aim to promote menstrual health literacy and hygiene practices among more than 1,000 individuals, including 398 girls, 602 boys, and 40 women from underserved communities.
The MoU was formally signed at VDS Public School, Turbhe, one of the participating institutions in the program. The event was attended by representatives from both organisations including Poonam Patkar, Head of Ujaas; Steffi Fernando, Senior Manager at Ujaas; Vinod Paremal, President and Managing Director, Evonik India Region; Vidya Gopinath, CSR Lead for Evonik India through the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce; and Prerna Sakpal, Senior Manager, Communications, Evonik India.Titled “Grow Beyond Yourself – MHM Awareness Sessions by Ujaas,” the initiative will be implemented across four schools: Gurukul English High School and Jeevanjyoti International School in Malad, Oxford English High School in Kurla, and VDS Public School in Navi Mumbai. The sessions will include specially curated content for adolescent girls, boys, and mothers, addressing the biological, social, and emotional aspects of menstruation.
The sessions for girls will focus on understanding puberty, the menstrual cycle, period hygiene, sustainable product use, and safe disposal practices. Discussions will also equip them to identify abnormal symptoms and encourage cycle tracking for better health outcomes. For boys, the modules aim to create empathy and understanding, while encouraging supportive behaviour within families, classrooms, and communities. Mothers will be engaged through discussions on PCOD, menopause, and adolescent health.Insights from the Ujaas Impact Report 2024–2025 highlight the value of such programs. Among adolescent girls who previously attended Ujaas sessions, 98 percent demonstrated a clear understanding of menstruation, and 94 percent could correctly identify menstrual hygiene products. Boys recorded a 47 percent increase in understanding menstruation and 74 percent reported feeling comfortable discussing the topic with female relatives. Additionally, 95 percent of National Service Scheme students recognised menstruation as a natural process, and 86 percent of girls rejected common myths around menstrual blood. Among Anganwadi workers, 96 percent felt confident explaining menstruation, while 94 percent could identify warning signs requiring medical attention.
Under this partnership, Ujaas will lead the delivery of the awareness sessions, while Evonik India will support the initiative through funding and logistical collaboration.

These efforts support the organisation’s mission to build menstrual health awareness, promote eco-friendly hygiene solutions, and foster grassroots economic empowerment.

From restoring lakes to supporting disabled students, UST’s CSR efforts are honoured nationally for the fourth year in a row
Through initiatives such as the Hettanahalli Lake restoration and the SkillSync autism program, UST’s long-term environmental and disability projects have reached over one lakh people across 127 interventions
UST, a global company focused on AI-driven digital solutions and technology transformation, has once again earned national recognition for its work in social responsibility. At the Indian CSR Awards 2025, the company was honoured in two categories: one for its large-scale water conservation programs and another for its work in inclusive education, health, and livelihoods for persons with disabilities.
The awards were given in the categories of Most Impactful Save Water Initiative of the Year and Education, Health and Livelihood Initiatives for People with Disabilities. This marks the fourth consecutive year UST has been recognised at the Indian CSR Awards, a testament to the continuity, scale, and effectiveness of its work across Indian communities.Established in 1999, UST has anchored its community initiatives in the principle of transforming lives through local, measurable outcomes. The company’s CSR footprint now spans nine Indian states with 127 active and completed projects that have reached more than one lakh individuals. These efforts focus on infrastructure, sustainability, education, inclusion, and health outcomes.
Among its water conservation achievements, UST led major lake restoration projects in partnership with local organisations. In 2024 and 2025, the company worked with the Environmentalist Foundation of India to rejuvenate Hettanahalli Lake in Karnataka and Karanaithangal Lake in Tamil Nadu. These efforts restored a total of 60 acres and helped preserve an estimated 170 billion gallons of water. In Coimbatore, the company launched Project Paryavarna, which included the restoration of eight water troughs used by wildlife. These interventions are supported by a combination of scientific frameworks and community participation.The company’s broader environmental strategy includes watershed management, forest area protection, coastal conservation, and tree planting. Six lake-focused projects have been implemented in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka over the past three years, forming the environmental core of UST’s CSR direction.
UST also received recognition for its long-standing initiatives aimed at supporting persons with disabilities. This includes the SkillSync vocational program designed for children on the autism spectrum. In addition, the company runs the UST-V Able Scholarship Program, which supports 167 students with disabilities across six Indian states.Infrastructure support has also been extended to special schools, benefiting nearly 170 students. This has included physical upgrades that improve access, learning conditions, and hygiene. The company also works on accessibility solutions such as assistive mobility devices, including wheelchairs, visual-aid tools, and transfer hoists. These devices are provided in response to actual needs and are selected to ensure day-to-day usability for recipients.
UST’s disability and social inclusion programs are delivered in collaboration with partner organisations including Vidhyadhan, RampMyCity Foundation, Neomotion, and the Academy for Severe Handicaps and Autism. These partnerships expand the reach and quality of the programs, ensuring consistency and tailoring across regions.Smita Sharma, Global Program Manager for CSR at UST, accepted both awards in New Delhi. Speaking at the ceremony, she shared that the recognition belongs equally to the CSR teams, non-profit collaborators, and the communities who have participated and co-created the results. She stated that programs such as lake restoration and disability support reflect the company’s belief that social change must be shared, practical, and long-term.
Smita also represented UST in a panel discussion on CSR and community development held during the event. She spoke about the importance of grounded, need-driven programs and emphasised that social impact cannot be approached with a standardised model. Instead, she advocated for collaboration, regional adaptation, and slow but steady capacity-building.This year’s recognition continues a strong record of CSR honours for the company. In 2024 alone, UST received the UK Business Culture Award for sustainability, the Best CSR Award, and the Mahatma Award for CSR Excellence for the third year running. Smita Sharma was awarded the Mahatma Young Changemaker Award in the same year. The company also earned acknowledgements from the National Institute of Personnel Management and the Project Management Institute in Kerala. At the Indian Social Impact Awards 2024, UST was recognised for Best Women’s Livelihood Initiative and Best Environment-Friendly Initiative, and the India CSR Awards also honoured its Best Women Employment Support Initiative.

Ambuja Cements’ rural projects add 220000 cubic metres of water storage across Baloda Bazar villages
Independent CRISIL study across 10 villages in Baloda Bazar confirms that Ambuja Cements’ water and infrastructure work helped reduce daily water-fetching time by 43 minutes
In the rural heartland of Baloda Bazar, Chhattisgarh, a long-term initiative led by Ambuja Cements has brought measurable change to water access and village infrastructure. Implemented by the Ambuja Foundation, the company’s rural development projects across ten villages have added over 220000 cubic metres of water storage capacity. These results were validated through an independent assessment conducted by CRISIL, involving 252 households.
The impact has been practical and visible. Villagers who previously spent an average of 55 minutes a day fetching water now report spending only 12 minutes. The improvement has unlocked time for women and children to engage in education, livelihood work, and family care.Water scarcity, once affecting 46 percent of the surveyed households, now affects only four percent. This shift came through multiple interventions, including community ponds, rainwater harvesting systems, rehabilitated wells, and irrigation tools such as sprinkler systems. Farmers in the area now use water more efficiently and report better control over crop planning.
Beyond water, the project included village infrastructure work such as all-weather roads, school renovations, and sanitation improvements. These upgrades have increased mobility, reduced dropout rates in schools, and improved access to health services.The health outcomes were notable. Families reported fewer water-borne diseases and a reduction in household medical expenses. The CRISIL study indicated a sixty percent improvement in overall health, based on self-reported changes observed since the start of the intervention.
Ambuja Foundation’s work avoided one-time support models. Instead, it focused on building community-led systems. Water user committees were formed in each village to take responsibility for maintenance and governance. Local volunteers received training to manage usage and report issues. The goal was to make water a community-managed asset rather than a corporate donation.The next phase of the program will focus on expanding rainwater harvesting coverage and scaling sustainable irrigation practices. Farmers will be introduced to crop diversification linked to water availability. Local leaders and women’s groups will be trained to integrate water planning into village-level development processes.

In a focused move to drive citizen-led sustainability, Casio India Co. Pvt. Ltd. joined hands with leading non-profits and environmental organisations to conduct a large-scale beach clean-up at Girgaum Chowpatty. Organised under the ‘Recycle Responsibly’ initiative, the event brought together more than 200 volunteers and led to the collection of over 1,250 kilograms of plastic and non-biodegradable waste.
The event was held in partnership with SHEOWS, Allied Waste Solutions, Onika Social Welfare Foundation, and Change Is Us. The collective aim was to reinforce the importance of recycling, proper waste segregation, and the urgency of restoring coastal ecosystems. Tara Devi’s Journey from SHG Member to Community Leader Signals Ambuja Cements Commitment to Women Led Rural Transformation
With help from her SHG federation, Tara Devi secured an interest free ₹1 lakh loan for her son’s medical education after he ranked 31st in NEET Himachal Pradesh, showcasing how Ambuja Cements rural empowerment model turns women into catalysts for intergenerational change.
Tara Devi joined her local SHG in 2020 when her household income was uncertain and options felt limited. She was not looking for charity. Like many women in her village, she wanted a way to secure savings, access loans, and learn how to manage her household’s finances more confidently. Over the months, her SHG became a space where knowledge, solidarity, and problem solving took root. As she grew more involved, Tara was elected to represent her group at the federation level, a cluster body that brings multiple SHGs together under a shared vision.
In 2025, Tara’s elder son Gaurav secured the 31st rank in the NEET examination for Himachal Pradesh. His success brought pride, but it also brought worry. The family could not afford the fees for medical college. Instead of withdrawing or losing hope, Tara brought her concern to a regular federation meeting. What followed was a quiet, powerful act of collective support. The federation members discussed, agreed, and approved an interest free loan of ₹1 lakh to help Tara fund her son’s admission into medical college.
This was not a special favour. It was a community backed mechanism, built on shared savings, mutual accountability, and collective decision making. That same day, the federation passed a resolution. Any SHG family whose child clears a national competitive exam will be considered for similar support. It was a declaration of intent. That no child with the talent to succeed should be stopped by the lack of money.
Ambuja Cements, part of the Adani Portfolio, has for years invested in this SHG to Federation model. It is built on layered capacity building, starting with small savings and loan groups at the village level and expanding into federated institutions that are trained in financial management, digital tools, leadership practices, and rights based engagement. What makes this model unique is that decision making is decentralised. Women like Tara, who were once first time savers, now evaluate loan proposals, support other families, and create internal policies that reflect local needs.
Tara’s journey is only one of many emerging from these federations. Across several districts, women are using their collective strength to support education, health emergencies, livelihood expansions, and social support. They are creating systems that work beyond the life of any one programme or funder.
Ambuja Cements approach is not to intervene with charity, but to equip communities to make their own decisions. The company’s rural initiatives go beyond financial support to include modules on digital literacy, access to government schemes, leadership skills, and entrepreneurship pathways for women and youth.Banjan is no longer a village where women depend on external advice. It is now a place where women set their own rules, run their own institutions, and invest in the next generation. Gaurav’s admission to medical college is not just a family success. It is a village wide investment. And it began with one SHG, led by a mother who decided to take the first step five years ago.
This story reflects a larger shift in rural development, one where SHGs and Federations are becoming trusted spaces for action. Where financial tools are not limited to banks, but managed by women. From Builders to Caretakers: NAREDCO Maharashtra Channels ₹3.12 Crore for Farmers’ Flood Relief

In a powerful gesture of community solidarity, the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) Maharashtra has extended support to flood-affected farmers across the state with a contribution of ₹3.12 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Of this, ₹1 crore came from Pune members, with the remainder pooled by Mumbai MMR-based developers and stakeholders.
This donation comes in response to the widespread devastation caused by heavy rainfall and flash floods in agrarian districts such as Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Nashik, Raigad, and Ratnagiri. The natural calamity has disrupted thousands of rural households, submerging crops, farmland, and homes leaving behind immense financial and emotional distress.Addressing the initiative, Mr. Prashant Sharma, President of NAREDCO Maharashtra, stated, “Maharashtra’s farmers are not just the providers of food, they are the pillars of our rural economy. Through this contribution, we wish to affirm our support to the state’s efforts to restore livelihoods, rebuild homes, and bring hope to those who have lost the most.”
The ₹3.12 crore relief amount was raised collectively by around 20 members of NAREDCO Maharashtra. The organisation highlighted the need for real estate and allied industries to participate in rural relief and rehabilitation efforts, especially in the face of such large-scale natural disasters.Over the years, NAREDCO Maharashtra has been actively involved in several social initiatives including disaster relief, education, and healthcare. The organisation emphasised that meaningful development is not limited to urban infrastructure alone, but also includes investing in the resilience and well-being of the rural backbone of the state.
The Maharashtra government, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has already disbursed over ₹8,000 crore in aid to nearly 40 lakh farmers across affected regions. Green Roots, National Duty: Cosmo Foundation and BSF Unite for 15,000 Trees in Delhi
With DG Shri Daljit Singh Chawdhary inaugurating the drive, Cosmo Foundation’s 15,000-tree plantation with BSF builds on a 1.6 lakh-tree legacy across Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
Cosmo Foundation, the community outreach arm of Cosmo First Ltd., has expanded its commitment to environmental sustainability with a new large-scale Miyawaki and fruit-bearing forestry initiative in collaboration with the 25 Battalion Border Security Force (BSF) at the Chhawla campus in New Delhi. The project aims to plant 15,000 native trees on-site, significantly enriching the green cover within the campus.
The initiative was inaugurated by Shri Daljit Singh Chawdhary, IPS, Director General of BSF, who commended the long-standing environmental contributions of the Cosmo Foundation and recalled the legacy of Late Shri Ashwini Kumar, Padma Bhushan and former DG of BSF. The drive is supported by BSF’s commitment to provide land, water, and maintenance resources, and is being implemented by Prayas Youth Foundation.
In 2024, Cosmo Foundation planted 7,500 Miyawaki saplings on the same campus and laid critical infrastructure including a borewell and sprinkler irrigation system to ensure long-term tree survival. This new 15,000-tree project doubles down on that effort, reinforcing BSF’s role not only in national security but also in ecological stewardship.
Mr. Ashok Jaipuria, Chairman of Cosmo Foundation and CMD of Cosmo First Ltd., along with Mrs. Yamini Jaipuria, Managing Trustee of Cosmo Foundation and Whole-time Director at Cosmo First Ltd., graced the event alongside senior BSF officials, representatives from Jamia Hamdard University, BSF School students, and members of the implementation team.At Cosmo First, our vision of progress includes environmental accountability. This plantation drive exemplifies our belief that industrial success must walk hand-in-hand with climate action, said Mr. and Mrs. Jaipuria in a joint statement.
The Cosmo Foundation’s broader environmental mission has already led to the plantation of over 1.6 lakh trees across 179 acres in Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Among its landmark initiatives is the creation of a Biodiversity Hub in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), where over 40,000 trees have already been planted with plans for 35,000 more by FY 2025–26.The Foundation continues to actively work in agroforestry, urban greening, rainwater harvesting, and plantation efforts in partnership with BSF, Indian Army, schools, and farmers. Its sustainability-driven approach focuses on native species, Miyawaki forests, and community livelihood generation. Alongside environment, Cosmo Foundation also works in education, health, and sanitation, under its People First development philosophy.
