AMTZ and Narayan Seva Sansthan Sign Five Year Pact to Localise Advanced Prosthetic Manufacturing
Mumbai, February 17, 2026: Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone Limited, a Government of Andhra Pradesh enterprise, has signed a five year Memorandum of Understanding with Narayan Seva Sansthan to co develop and manufacture affordable prosthetic, orthotic and assistive technologies.
According to Census 2011 data, India has 2.68 crore persons with disabilities. Movement disability accounts for 54.36 lakh individuals, hearing impairment for 50.72 lakh, and visual impairment for 50.33 lakh. Nearly 69.49 percent of persons with disabilities reside in rural areas, underscoring the need for accessible and affordable assistive devices.
Currently, a standard artificial limb provided by Narayan Seva Sansthan costs approximately ₹10,000. Advanced above knee prosthetics fitted with pneumatic knee joints and carbon foot components cost about ₹41,000 due to imported inputs. The collaboration seeks to reduce this cost to nearly ₹10,000 through indigenous manufacturing while maintaining performance standards.
The partnership covers powered and myoelectric prosthetics, sports and cosmetic limb solutions, orthotic devices including diabetic foot management tools and walking braces, mobility aids such as walkers, wheelchairs and crutches, and advanced hearing devices.
