  • Types of Furniture Across Cultures: How Tradition Shapes Design

By Mr. Hemant Agarwal, Founder of Silver Lake Premium Furniture

Types of furniture have always been a reflection of the culture and history of the people who crafted and used them. From the minimalist designs of Japan to the opulent, intricately carved furniture of China, each culture tells its own story through its interior design. Furniture is not just functional but a symbol of the artistry, beliefs, and lifestyle of different communities. This exploration of the varied types of furniture found across the world, from traditional to contemporary styles, offers a glimpse into the creative ingenuity that defines human living spaces.

The lifestyle of human species has evolved a lot in the last few centuries, from the clothes we wear to the food we eat, it’s all evolved a lot in past times. Diversity of human beliefs is immense, different cultures have different styles of living, their home design, whether they use concrete or wood or the type of furniture they prefer. Interior design of homes differs according to their culture, depending on the types of traditional craftsmanship they use, or the cultural practices of that particular place.

Types of Furniture used vary in different cultures, like in Japanese culture, traditionally Tatami Mats and Futon were used. Tatami Mats were woven by straws and were made to be laid on floors, generally for floor seating and low tables. Futons are the mattress that can be folded and stored during day time. We can see that Japanese furniture are typically minimal, and are made solely for comfort. Shoji screens can also be an example of minimalistic furniture in Japanese culture, which are sliding paper doors to allow light to pass through.

Traditional Chinese furniture was often made of hardwoods, and had distinct curves, or intricate carvings to make them look more appealing. Ming chairs and Chinese cabinets are some of the examples, where Ming chairs are known for their elegance and simplicity and Chinese cabinets were lacquered with carvings and paintings. Opium beds and Kang tables were also some of the furniture often used in Chinese culture.

Traditionally, Charpai was one of the most basic pieces of furniture used in Indian culture. It’s a traditional woven bed, made from a wooden frame and jute strings. Jhoola is one of the things that can be found in the Indian courtyards or living rooms, it’s a hanging swing chair or bench. Indian furniture often had intricate carvings, designs, and paintings made, especially in royal homes.

African furniture was traditionally made on a hierarchy basis, stools and thrones, which symbolize power and prestige and wooden carved benches were used for the communal sittings. Stools were often carved from a single piece of wood and benches used to be adorned with tribal carvings. Rattan furniture were made from palm stems and were known for their durability and lightweight. In countries like Morocco, Leather Ottomans are used as seats or foot rests, and are made from goat or camel hide.

In the Middle eastern countries, Majlis seating and Mosaic tables are used traditionally. Majlis seating is a form of communal gathering where cushions are laid around the room in a circular manner and Mosaic tables are intricate with geometric designs usually found in countries like Morocco and Iran. Divans are long backless Sofas, covered with sheets and cushions.
Victorian furniture in Western Europe is often made of hardwood and rich padded textile covering it. Chesterfield Sofa is a two layered leather sofa, which came from England. Louis XIV furniture is again a luxurious and expensive piece often found in France.
American furniture design has changed a lot from native Americans to modern interior designs. Adirondack chairs and Shaker furniture are often seen in America. Adirondack chairs are outdoor chairs, which have wide armrests and can be used in rusty settings. Metal, glass and plywood were used in mid-century modern, which had clean, sleek lines.
As opposed to their northern companion the furniture style in Latin America has always been quite simple. Influenced by the Spanish craftsmanship, their furniture style has always been lightweight and eco-friendly. Hammocks, a traditional hanging bed or seat, are usually made of cotton or sisal fiber, they can be used both inside and outside hanging with the help of a tree. Equipal chairs are made from pigskin leather and woven wood are mostly found in countries like Mexico.
Every culture has their own style and design in their furniture, they all bring their unique flavor in the design and craftsmanship. It tells you the story of their culture and history of their people and traditions.

  • India’s Learning Leap: How Global Classrooms and Digital Pathways Are Reshaping Education in 2025

Four collaborations, from Austrian study tours and Open edX upgrades to preschool culture modules, are redefining India’s education priorities across generations.
India’s education sector in 2025 is evolving at a unique intersection of cultural exchange, digital empowerment, and foundational learning. As globalisation, edtech, and experiential curricula converge, India is positioning itself not just as a participant but as a co-creator in the future of education. In this editorial from Prittle Prattle News, featuring you virtuously, we explore four real-time initiatives that reflect a deliberate shift from rote to relevance.

BIMTECH x FH Vorarlberg: Global Business Learning Comes to Greater Noida
The Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) partnered with FH Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences in Austria for a two-week India Study Program. Over 25 Austrian students immersed themselves in Indian industry visits, policy discussions, and cultural learning. The initiative covered themes such as economic reforms, social entrepreneurship, and inclusive development through classroom interactions and institutional visits.

BIMTECH Director Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi explained, “It’s not just about business theory. Real learning happens when culture and industry intersect.”
Students visited NITI Aayog, Amul, Mother Dairy, and the Supreme Court of India, gaining first-hand exposure to India’s policy frameworks and business operations. The program highlighted India’s growing emphasis on internationalisation, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020.

NSDC x Axim: Global Skilling with Open edX
India’s largest skilling agency, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), has upgraded to the Open edX platform through a collaboration with Axim, integrating it with Skill India Digital and eSkill India.
NSDC CEO Ved Mani Tiwari said, “This transformation makes India’s skilling digital-first, global, and multilingual. It’s our step toward creating a global talent pool.”
The Open edX platform, originally developed by Harvard and MIT, is now a global leader in open-source learning. The integration will offer personalised learning experiences with AI support, robust multilingual interfaces, cloud-based scalability, and embedded analytics. The upgrade is expected to benefit millions of learners and bridge the employability gap across rural and urban India.

    Cambridge Curriculum at ISS Secunderabad
The International School of Secunderabad (ISS) has introduced the Cambridge Primary Curriculum for Grades 1 and 2. The curriculum will deliver global education benchmarks while aligning with India’s own NEP 2020 objectives of conceptual clarity, critical thinking, and activity-based learning.
Crimson Schools CEO Husien Dohadwalla said, “We’re not just changing textbooks, we’re reshaping how children approach knowledge, with depth, confidence and creativity.”
The initiative will foster independent thinking, early logic development, and integrated learning. ISS plans to scale the framework gradually into upper primary and middle school levels.

EuroKids Summer Club 2025: Global Cultures for Young Minds
Lighthouse Learning Group‘s EuroKids Preschool launched its 2025 summer club with two thematic modules, ‘Nature Venture’ and ‘Cultures Around the World’. The programs are tailored for children aged 2–6 and encourage holistic development through experiential formats.
Dr. Anita Madan, Head of Curriculum, explained, “Children learn best through play, but guided play that introduces them to diversity, global geography, and empathy.”
Each module includes hands-on cultural projects such as flamenco fan crafting (Spain), dragon puppets (China), seed bomb creation (India), and Kenyan safari storytelling. The curriculum draws from the Heureka Visible Thinking framework, inspired by Harvard’s Project Zero, to stimulate independent exploration in early learners.

    Why This Matters
India’s education priorities are shifting toward inclusivity, adaptability, and international alignment. These four collaborations reflect larger policy visions, from the NEP’s push for global exposure and early learning to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’s goal of creating a digitally empowered skilling ecosystem.
Institutions like BIMTECH and ISS are paving the way for Indian learners to think, build, and collaborate globally. NSDC’s tech leap sets a new benchmark in government-led edtech, while EuroKids signals how even preschools are embracing culture as a tool of cognition.
As the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) target for higher education rises to 50% by 2035 and foundational literacy is prioritised under NIPUN Bharat, these initiatives are building that base, with thought, not trend.

Mumbai’s floating runway was just the beginning.

Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles has unveiled the Jawa 350 Legacy Edition, celebrating one year of the Jawa 350 in India. With only 500 units available, this exclusive release is expected to become a future collector’s motorcycle, combining heritage styling with advanced engineering.
The Jawa 350 Legacy Edition is engineered using the golden ratio, a design principle used in architecture, art, and even nature to ensure perfect symmetry and balance. By applying this to motorcycle design, Jawa has created a harmoniously proportioned machine that offers a smooth, stable, and comfortable riding experience. Inspired by the Jawa Type 353, this edition revives the timeless silhouette while integrating modern performance upgrades.
Sharad Agarwal, Chief Business Officer at Classic Legends, emphasized the significance of this release, stating, “The Jawa 350 has been embraced by riders across India for its balance between nostalgia and modern engineering. The golden ratio ensures the motorcycle remains perfectly proportioned in both design and ride dynamics, just like the legendary Jawas of the past. The Legacy Edition enhances that experience with premium accessories and exclusivity, making it a must-have for enthusiasts.”

Tribute to the Type 353: A Design Legacy That Lives On
The Jawa 350 Legacy Edition pays homage to the Jawa Type 353, a revolutionary motorcycle of the 1950s. Its teardrop fuel tank, chrome-finished fenders, and signature golden pinstripes stay true to the classic aesthetic, while modern refinements ensure superior road presence and comfort.
The rounded headlamp, twin-pod instrument cluster, and polished steel exhaust reinforce Jawa’s vintage identity. A collector’s edition Jawa miniature and a premium leather keychain are included, adding to its memorabilia appeal.

    Engineered for Performance and Comfort
Underneath its retro-inspired aesthetics, the Jawa 350 Legacy Edition is powered by a 350cc liquid-cooled engine, delivering 22.5PS and 28.1Nm of torque. • Not Just Another Budget Phone: POCO M7 5G Sets a New Standard with TÜV Triple-Certification & Sony Camera Tech

With a TÜV Rheinland-certified display, Sony IMX852 optics, and all-day battery life, POCO M7 5G is rewriting the rules of budget smartphones.

The budget smartphone market is often filled with minor updates that do little to push boundaries. POCO M7 5G is taking a different approach by introducing features that were once reserved for higher-end devices. With a TÜV Rheinland-certified display, Sony IMX852 camera technology, and a long-lasting 5160mAh battery, POCO is changing what users can expect in this category.

The TÜV Rheinland Triple Certification on the display ensures a comfortable viewing experience, reducing blue light emissions and flickering that cause eye strain. Most budget smartphones do not focus on eye protection, but POCO is bringing flagship-level display technology to a wider audience. With smartphone screen time increasing every year, having low blue light protection and flicker-free visuals makes a noticeable difference in long-term usability.
The Sony IMX852 sensor sets the M7 5G apart in terms of photography. Many budget devices rely on generic camera sensors that struggle in low-light conditions and fast-moving shots. The 50MP sensor in this device brings AI-enhanced image processing, superior low-light capabilities, and sharper video recording. With 1080P video recording at 30FPS available on both front and rear cameras, the device is positioned as a solid choice for content creators, vloggers, and mobile photographers.

Battery life is a crucial factor in smartphone purchases, and POCO has made sure that the M7 5G is optimized for all-day usage. The 5160mAh battery provides extended screen time, while 18W fast charging ensures that users are not left waiting. Unlike many budget devices that include lower-wattage chargers, POCO bundles a 33W charger in the box, offering faster and more efficient charging out of the gate.
Beyond performance and specifications, the M7 5G is designed to last. It features IP52 certification, providing resistance against dust and splashes. Whether it is a light drizzle or an accidental spill, the device is built to handle everyday situations with ease.

POCO is known for disrupting the smartphone market, and the March 3 launch event at 12 PM is expected to reveal even more surprises. With its track record of delivering high-performance devices at aggressive pricing, the M7 5G could redefine what users expect from a budget smartphone. If POCO continues its strategy of premium features at budget-friendly prices, it will likely set a new benchmark in the segment.
The POCO M7 5G is more than just another affordable smartphone. It challenges industry norms with a certified eye-friendly display, professional-grade Sony camera, and battery efficiency that lasts longer and charges faster. As competition in the budget segment continues to grow, POCO is proving that it is possible to deliver flagship-like features without raising costs.

  • Amazon Mumbai Flamingo Conservation Gets a $1.2 Million Boost to Restore Wetlands and Remove Plastic Waste

Amazon’s investment is more than a clean-up. It is a strategic push towards climate resilience, wetland restoration, and community empowerment, setting a precedent for corporate-driven conservation in urban biodiversity hotspots.

Amazon Mumbai Flamingo Conservation is receiving a $1.2 million investment as part of the company’s global sustainability initiative. This funding will restore Mumbai’s flamingo habitat, tackle plastic pollution in Thane Creek, and drive mangrove reforestation efforts in Gujarat. Amazon, through its $100 million Right Now Climate Fund, is partnering with Hasten Regeneration to remove 150 tons of plastic waste, plant 375,000 mangrove trees, and create sustainable jobs for local communities. This Amazon Mumbai Flamingo Conservation project marks a significant step in corporate-led biodiversity protection in India.
The project, in collaboration with Hasten Regeneration, will focus on plastic waste removal, mangrove reforestation, and habitat restoration to ensure Mumbai’s flamingos and other wetland species continue to thrive. With growing concerns over the degradation of India’s wetlands, this initiative signals an important shift in corporate-led conservation efforts aimed at preserving critical ecosystems in urban environments.

Why Mumbai’s Flamingos Need Urgent Protection
Mumbai’s Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary, a Ramsar-designated wetland, is home to thousands of lesser and greater flamingos that migrate from Gujarat and other regions. These birds rely on the mudflats, mangroves, and nutrient-rich waters of the creek for survival. However, the influx of untreated sewage, industrial discharge, and plastic pollution has turned this vital habitat into a toxic zone, threatening both biodiversity and the surrounding communities.
The problem is not isolated to Mumbai. Coastal wetlands across India are disappearing at an alarming rate, with nearly 40 percent lost in the last three decades due to land reclamation, illegal dumping, and unchecked urban expansion. The loss of mangroves not only threatens flamingos but also weakens natural defenses against rising sea levels, storm surges, and climate change impacts.

    Amazon’s Three-Pronged Strategy to Restore Mumbai’s Wetlands
Amazon’s $1.2 million initiative is not just a clean-up mission. It is a strategic blueprint designed to tackle plastic pollution, restore mangrove forests, and uplift local communities through sustainable solutions.
The first phase of the project will involve the installation of a trash boom to intercept plastic waste before it reaches Thane Creek’s sensitive ecosystem. This method has been successfully used in river clean-ups worldwide, preventing thousands of tons of waste from entering marine habitats. The goal is to remove at least 150 tons of plastic debris, making a direct impact on the water quality and overall health of the wetland.
The second phase focuses on mangrove afforestation and ecosystem restoration. Mangroves play a critical role in carbon sequestration, storing up to ten times more carbon per hectare than tropical rainforests, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The initiative will involve planting 375,000 mangrove shrubs and trees, primarily in Gujarat, where these birds breed. This effort will not only support flamingo populations but also enhance coastal resilience against erosion and extreme weather events.
The third component of the project is community involvement and livelihood generation. The restoration work will provide employment opportunities for local residents, particularly women-led planting groups, ensuring that the initiative has long-term economic benefits. By engaging the fishing communities and slum settlements along Thane Creek, the project aims to improve living conditions, reduce health hazards linked to pollution, and promote sustainable conservation practices.

Government and Conservation Experts Applaud the Initiative
The initiative has gained strong support from environmental leaders and government officials, aligning with India’s broader Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats and Tangible Incomes (MISHTI) program. Shri Mukeshbhai Zinabhai Patel, Minister of Forest and Environment, Climate Change, Water Resources and Water Supply, State of Gujarat, highlighted the multi-faceted benefits of the project. He emphasized that large-scale mangrove restoration efforts would protect against storm surges, rising sea levels, and erosion, while also creating sustainable employment for local communities.
Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations at Amazon India, underscored the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability. He stated that preserving Mumbai’s flamingo habitat is crucial not only for biodiversity but also for the communities that rely on these ecosystems for their livelihoods.
Sheeba Sen, Co-founder of Hasten Regeneration India and Director of Alaap, called this project a game-changer for Mumbai’s conservation landscape. She noted that plastic waste and wetland degradation are among the biggest threats to India’s coastal biodiversity, and this collaboration will help pave the way for sustainable wetland management models.

Beyond Mumbai: Amazon’s Expanding Climate Commitments in India
This initiative is part of a larger effort by Amazon to address environmental challenges across India and the Asia-Pacific region. In 2023, the company announced a $15 million investment through its Right Now Climate Fund, supporting nature-based solutions to climate change. Other projects under this fund include:

    • A partnership with the Centre for Wildlife Studies to plant 300,000 trees in the Western Ghats, restoring habitat near tiger and elephant corridors.
    • A collaboration with ICLEI South Asia to launch 75 school gardens, promoting urban biodiversity and combating child malnutrition by generating 15 million school meals.

With sustainability becoming a corporate priority, this initiative showcases how global companies can play a proactive role in protecting natural ecosystems while creating positive social impact.

    Will Corporate Conservation Be Enough?
While Amazon’s $1.2 million commitment is a step in the right direction, environmentalists caution that long-term conservation success requires systemic policy changes, stronger enforcement of pollution controls, and large-scale community participation. Wetland restoration projects must be paired with sustainable urban planning strategies to ensure that Mumbai’s fragile ecosystems remain protected against future threats.
As corporations like Amazon continue to expand their climate action efforts, the challenge will be to ensure accountability, measure impact, and create models that can be replicated beyond individual projects. The success of this initiative could set a powerful precedent for corporate-driven conservation in India, but will it be enough to reverse decades of environmental damage? For more updates on environmental conservation efforts and sustainability initiatives, visit Prittle Prattle News.

MG Motor India and JSW Group have expanded their electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the Comet Blackstorm, a stylish and city-friendly EV designed for urban drivers seeking a balance of style, efficiency, and convenience. Priced at ₹7.80 lakh with an innovative ₹2.5/km battery rental model, the Comet Blackstorm is positioned as the top-end variant of the Comet EV lineup. Featuring Starry Black exteriors, black-themed interiors with red stitching, and an upgraded four-speaker sound system, the latest model offers a premium driving experience tailored for city commuters.

The launch of the Comet Blackstorm comes as MG Motor and JSW continue to strengthen their position in India’s growing electric vehicle market. The Comet EV has already recorded a 29 percent year-on-year sales increase in 2024, reflecting strong demand for compact and efficient EVs. With its new design and enhanced features, the Blackstorm edition is expected to attract both first-time EV buyers and those looking for a sophisticated yet affordable electric vehicle.
The all-black aesthetic of the Comet Blackstorm stands out with dark chrome branding, a black MG logo, and a sleek Starry Black body finish. The INTERNET INSIDE emblem is finished in black, giving the vehicle a modern and cohesive look. The interior carries forward this bold theme, featuring black leatherette seats embroidered with BLACKSTORM in red, along with black-finished dashboard, door trims, and center console, adding to the premium appeal.

Powered by a 17.4kWh battery, the Comet Blackstorm offers an ARAI-certified range of 230 kilometers per charge. MG Motor expects the latest edition to play a pivotal role in strengthening its presence in the subcompact EV segment.

Rakesh Sen, Head of Sales at JSW MG Motor India, emphasized the evolving preferences of Indian consumers, noting that buyers are increasingly drawn to vehicles that reflect their personality. He pointed out that bold color options and distinctive designs are becoming an integral part of car-buying decisions in India. The Comet Blackstorm, with its sporty and refined styling, aims to cater to this growing demand.

MG Motor and JSW Group remain committed to expanding India’s electric mobility ecosystem, ensuring that consumers have access to affordable, stylish, and technologically advanced EV options. With strong sales momentum, competitive pricing, and a striking new look, the Comet Blackstorm is expected to gain traction among urban drivers looking for a feature-rich and aesthetically appealing electric vehicle.

  • Pharma’s Next Big Shift: BCG & IPSO Chart India’s CRDMO Path to a $25 Billion Global Opportunity

A new BCG-IPSO report highlights how India’s CRDMO firms are scaling talent, infrastructure, and innovation to capture a larger share of the $145 billion global pharma outsourcing market.

India’s Contract Research, Development, and Manufacturing Organization (CRDMO) sector is undergoing a transformation, with projections placing it at $25 billion by 2035. A new report, “Unleashing the Tiger: Indian CRDMO Sector 2025”, published by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Innovative Pharmaceutical Services Organization (IPSO), outlines India’s growing influence in global pharmaceutical innovation.
The report highlights how eleven leading CRDMO firms have joined forces under IPSO to move beyond traditional outsourcing. The goal is to position India as a leader in biologics, RNA therapeutics, and advanced drug development, with strong support from government-backed initiatives and global supply chain shifts.

India’s CRDMO market is expanding at a 15% CAGR, surpassing global industry growth. As pharmaceutical companies diversify manufacturing beyond China, India’s expertise in small molecules, biologics, and Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs) presents a major advantage. The report states that global supply chain realignments are unlocking a $10 billion opportunity for Indian CRDMOs.
Peter Bains, CEO Designate of Syngene International Ltd., emphasized that India is no longer just a low-cost outsourcing hub but is advancing towards high-value pharmaceutical innovation. He stated that IPSO’s efforts would accelerate India’s leadership in cutting-edge drug research and biomanufacturing.

IPSO’s Role in India’s CRDMO Expansion
IPSO is bringing together leading Indian CRDMOs, including Syngene International, Aragen Life Sciences, Piramal Pharma Solutions, Sai Life Sciences, Neuland Laboratories, Aurigene, and Jubilant Biosys. This coalition aims to enhance India’s drug discovery capabilities, strengthen regulatory frameworks, and promote international partnerships.
Manni Kantipudi, CEO of Aragen Life Sciences, noted that IPSO represents a strategic shift for the Indian CRDMO sector. He highlighted that India must move beyond small-molecule manufacturing and focus on biologics, ADCs, and gene therapies to capture a larger share of the $145 billion global CRDMO market.
Vikash Agarwalla, Managing Director at BCG, emphasized that while India’s cost advantage, talent pool, and policy support are strong, the industry must address critical funding, regulatory, and sustainability challenges to fully capitalize on the $25 billion potential.

Key Challenges on the Road to $25 Billion
Despite strong growth, India’s CRDMO sector must overcome several challenges to achieve its full potential. The BCG-IPSO report outlines five key areas that require immediate attention:
India needs to scale its talent pool by 6-7x by 2035, particularly in biologics, ADCs, and gene therapy. The regulatory approval process must be streamlined to enable faster clinical trials and drug approvals. IPSO is advocating for a more competitive regulatory framework to help Indian firms compete with United States, European Union, and Japan in securing global partnerships.
India currently imports a significant portion of its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), making supply chain resilience a key focus. Strengthening the domestic Tier 1 supplier base is crucial to reducing dependence on imports. Capital investment in CRDMOs needs to increase by 4-5x to build world-class R&D infrastructure. IPSO is working with policymakers to encourage financial incentives for research, manufacturing, and digital transformation.
With global pharma firms adopting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance standards, Indian CRDMOs need to align with sustainable manufacturing practices to remain competitive in international markets.

Global Pharma’s Shift: India’s Growing Influence in CRDMO
The global pharmaceutical industry is evolving, and India is emerging as a preferred destination for contract research and drug development.
Pharmaceutical giants are actively diversifying their supply chains, with a shift away from China to India and Southeast Asia. Regulatory policies such as the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) are encouraging offshoring to cost-effective hubs like India. Additionally, the Indian government’s ₹25,000 crore R&D investment is fueling the country’s rise as a center for biologics, cell and gene therapy, and next-generation drug manufacturing.
Smruthi Suryaprakash, Partner at BCG, explained that IPSO is helping Indian CRDMOs move beyond outsourcing to full-scale drug discovery. She noted that India is now competing with the world’s top pharmaceutical research hubs and has the potential to become a leader in high-value drug manufacturing.

India’s CRDMO Future: A $25 Billion Global Opportunity
With IPSO driving collaboration, India’s CRDMO sector is poised to play a central role in global pharmaceutical research and manufacturing. The next decade will determine whether India can fully capitalize on its scientific expertise, infrastructure, and policy advantages to secure a larger share of the global pharma market.
