Peter Orton Beaumont, MD, Graduate of St George’s University School of Medicine, reflects on NHS based clinical training within SGU’s international programme
UK NHS Rotations Form Core Part of St George’s University MD Pathway
India: St George’s University School of Medicine has outlined the structure of its United Kingdom clinical rotation pathway, which forms a central component of its Doctor of Medicine programme for students seeking international training exposure.
Training within the NHS places students in structured hospital environments where multidisciplinary care, protocol driven practice and population based health systems are integral to delivery. Exposure to a different regulatory and clinical context allows students to adapt to varied systems of care.
Students participating in NHS rotations manage diverse case loads in high volume clinical settings. The experience is intended to support clinical decision making and readiness for postgraduate medical training.
The university states that working within the NHS also provides exposure to diverse patient populations, strengthening communication skills and cultural awareness. Interaction with different diagnostic pathways and care models supports the development of clinical reasoning.
